We began to edit our audio recordings together this week, using sounds we had from various trips to Bramall Lane. To begin with, we listened to all the recordings individually to see what we had captured, how good it sounded and overall if we would be able to incorporate it into our work. After listening to various different recordings, we went through and deleted what was necessary, while saving the rest to the network ready to open onto Soundtrack Pro. Luckily, one particular recording we had, which was approximately four minutes long, consisted of background noise of outside and into the entrances of the stadium. After listening to it a few times, we decided to use it as our main backing track, then from there, layer up the other sounds on top.
Before we started editing, we made an audio timeline on some paper and planned out what particular sounds we wanted to use, and where in the soundtrack we wanted to play them to gradually build a structure.
Looking first at the noise around the ground, we decided to start with quieter noise, and build up from there to describe the build up to the match. We started with light change buckets from charity workers that were scattered on the streets surrounding the ground. We then got sounds of programme sellers and turnstiles o show entrance to the stadium. From there we started to build on the chanting of the away fans and had some police horses in the background slowly coming in. We then added noise of the crowds reactions to game play, from cheers to sighs, and decided to finish on the Sheffield United fans singing one of their famous chants.
From there, we started the process of editing the different sections onto Soundtrack Pro, and slowly started to build and picture of what it would sound like. We also had the podcast of the fans and their personal thoughts to add on the top throughout the entire piece.
Altogether, we managed to create a draft cut of our three minute audio piece and were pleased with the outcome. There are minor improvements to be made but the general structure of the soundtrack is complete.
